Lincang, Yunnan, China

Lincang, located in the southwest of Yunnan Province, China, is a celebrated tea-producing region renowned for its ancient tea tree heritage and premium Pu-erh teas. Situated at elevations ranging from 800 to 2,300 meters, Lincang benefits from a subtropical highland climate, which is ideal for cultivating tea. The region is home to picturesque landscapes featuring lush mountains, deep river valleys, and terraced tea gardens that showcase centuries of tea-growing tradition. Known for its biodiversity, Lincang includes famous areas like Fengqing and Shuangjiang, where ancient tea trees thrive.

The climate in Lincang is characterized by mild temperatures ranging between 10°C and 25°C, with ample rainfall during the monsoon season. This unique combination of humid conditions and rich, fertile soil creates an environment that nurtures robust tea leaves with complex flavors. The ancient tea trees, some over a thousand years old, contribute to the distinctive taste of Lincang’s teas, often described as bold, smooth, and lingering with sweet and floral undertones.

Tea from Lincang is often hand-harvested to preserve the integrity of the leaves. Whether in the form of Sheng (raw) or Shu (ripe) Pu-erh, Lincang teas are revered for their aging potential and unique terroir. The teas brew a deep, vibrant liquor with a smooth texture and complex aroma, reflecting the essence of Yunnan’s tea-growing expertise.
